"I believe that a preacher has a right to use any legitimate way under God's sun of producing an atmosphere of reverence and worship in the minds and hearts of the people who come to church." -Rev. Bill Stidger
This is a fascinating biography of Reverend William Leroy Stidger (1885-1949), the early twentieth-century preacher who brought modern marketing and publicity tactics to his crusade to save souls. A fervent preacher, Stidger forever changed the way evangelists present themselves to the public, and was a forerunner of Bill Graham, Jim Bakker, and Jerry Falwell. He was also an enormously successful radio personality who had the world's first electric cross-constructed on top of his church.
Jack Hyland, an investment banker, is Bill Stidger's grandson. He lives in New York City. |
